Conduct all business-related banking activities from a standalone computer that has limited access to e-mail and web browsing.
Initiate electronic transactions (such as payroll, ACH and wire transactions) under dual control, with a transaction originator and a separate transaction authorizer. Talk to your cash management representative for more information.
Reconcile all banking transactions on a daily basis, and look for any unusual activity.
Don't access websites from links in e-mails. Beware of e-mails offering a prize or discount then ask you to enter a user id and password. Many of these spoof e-mails are characterized by poor spelling and grammar.
Change your passwords every 45 to 60 days and never use the same password for all websites.
Frequently update antivirus and antispyware software as one component among many to protect your company. Make sure your operating system, web browser, programs and plug-ins (e.g. Adobe, Java) are updated.
Never include personal or sensitive data in response to an email.
Be suspicious of e-mails pretending to be from a legitimate institution requesting your access credentials (such as usernames, passwords, PINs, etc.).
Implementing these practices across business machines and devices, including desktop computers, laptops, cell phones and tablets, and frequent monitoring for suspicious activity is vital to protecting your business from cybercriminals.
