Treasury Management Impersonation

Important Security Alert for Treasury Management Customers

We are alerting Treasury Management customers to an active fraud campaign targeting businesses. Fraudsters are impersonating NBT Bank Treasury Management employees to gain access to online banking accounts and initiate unauthorized transactions.

These fraud attempts may involve directing customers to a website that closely resembles NBT's digital banking platform; requesting digital banking credentials; asking for a One-Time Passcode (OTP); and instructing customers to activate call forwarding (*72) or redirecting their business phone number.

Know the Warning Signs:

Fraudsters may contact Treasury Management customers by phone while claiming to be an NBT employee. During these interactions, they may:

  • Create a false sense of urgency and pressure you to act immediately.
  • Claim they are helping secure your account or prevent fraud.
  • Direct you to a website that appears similar to NBT's digital banking platform.
  • Ask you to enter your digital banking credentials.
  • Request a One-Time Passcode (OTP) sent to your device.
  • Instruct you to activate call forwarding (*72) or redirect your business phone number.

Once this information is obtained, fraudsters can initiate ACH or wire transactions from your account.

How to Protect Your Business

Please remember:

  • NBT employees will never ask for your NBT digital banking OTP.
  • Never share your NBT digital banking One-Time Passcode (OTP) with anyone.
  • NBT employees will never ask you to dial *72, activate call forwarding, or redirect your business phone line.
  • Never provide your online banking credentials during an unsolicited phone call or click on links someone sends that you are not familiar with.
  • Only access NBT digital banking platform through a trusted bookmark or by typing the website address directly into your browser.
  • If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from NBT Bank, hang up and contact your Treasury Management representative using a known NBT phone number.
  • Review account activity regularly and report any suspicious activity immediately.

Consider Dual Control for Payments

To further protect your business, NBT strongly recommends implementing dual control for ACH and wire transactions whenever possible. Dual control requires one authorized user to initiate a transaction and a second authorized user to review and approve it before processing, providing an additional layer of protection against payment fraud and unauthorized account activity.

If You Suspect Fraud

Contact NBT Bank immediately at 833-NBT-4BIZ (628-4249) or [email protected] if you:

  • Shared your credentials or OTP with someone.
  • Activated call forwarding at the direction of another person.
  • Visited a suspicious website claiming to be NBT.
  • Observe unauthorized account activity or unauthorized ACH or wire transactions.

Prompt reporting can significantly improve our ability to prevent losses and protect your accounts.

Thank you for your partnership and attention to this important security alert.
