JOHNSTOWN, NY (May 24, 2017) – NBT Bank Senior Vice President and Residential Mortgage Manager Joseph Culver announced today that NBT will be offering its Home in the City Program in Johnstown, Gloversville and Amsterdam, and is partnering with Albany County Rural Housing Alliance (ACRHA) to assist first-time homebuyers.
Announcing the pledge Culver said, “Our Home in the City Program is a mortgage loan program designed specifically to encourage homeownership in cities served by NBT Bank and is an example of our commitment to support our local communities. By partnering with agencies like ACRHA we are providing options that might otherwise not be available to homebuyers in cities like Johnstown, Gloversville and Amsterdam.”
In addition to homeowner education, the program offers potential homebuyers the opportunity to meet with an NBT Bank loan originator to help them determine the maximum amount of a home mortgage they qualify to finance and assist with the application process for a Home in the City loan.
The loan program provides:
- 95% financing for the purchase of a one or two-family, owner-occupied residence;
- An interest rate reduction of 0.25% for eligible first-time homebuyers who complete homebuyer education classes; and
- No mortgage insurance or additional monthly payments required.
Participants may complete homebuyer education classes offered through ACRHA. The classes help prepare them for the responsibilities of homeownership and cover topics like home maintenance, how to select a realtor and mortgage lender, credit and debt management and qualifications for down payment and closing cost assistance grants.
ACRHA Executive Director Judith Eisgruber thanked NBT Bank for its support saying, “I am always impressed when a bank, such as NBT Bank, recognizes the importance of homeownership education and partners with a community agency to offer a program that combines education with an affordable home loan option.”
