NBT Bank Announces New Home in the City Homebuyer Program and Partnership with Binghamtom Homeownership Academy

BINGHAMTON, NY (February 22, 2017) – NBT Bank Senior Vice President and Residential Mortgage Manager Joseph Culver recently announced that NBT will be offering its Home in the City Program in the City of Binghamton and partnering with the Binghamton Homeownership Academy (BHOA) to assist first-time homebuyers.

Announcing the pledge Culver said, “Our Home in the City Program is a mortgage loan program designed specifically to encourage homeownership in cities served by NBT Bank. Through our partnership with BHOA, we will encourage those interested in the program to obtain homebuyer education and determine if they qualify for available down payment and closing costs assistance grant programs. An NBT loan originator will work with potential homebuyers to determine how much they qualify to finance and help them apply for a Home in the City loan.”

The Home in the City Program provides loans to qualifying borrowers with a household income up to 120% of the HUD Area Median with:

  • 95% financing for the purchase of a one or two-family, owner-occupied residence;
  • An interest rate reduction of 0.25% for eligible first-time homebuyers who complete homebuyer education classes; and
  • No mortgage insurance or additional monthly payments required.

Homebuyer education classes offered through the BHOA help prepare potential homebuyers for the responsibilities of home ownership and cover topics like home maintenance, how to select a realtor and mortgage lender, and how to manage credit and debt.

BHOA Program Coordinator Conant Smith thanked NBT Bank for its support of first-time homebuyers saying, “We are excited about this partnership which will make homeownership more affordable for first-time buyers wishing to live in the City of Binghamton. NBT’s Home in the City mortgage program combined with our educational resources will provide applicants with the most current and accurate information on the home buying process.”
