Local Students Learn New Skills from NBT Bank

SARANAC LAKE, NY (October 19, 2016) – Saranac Lake High School juniors and seniors learned new skills as part of their academic curriculum this month. NBT Bank’s Saranac Lake Branch Manager Julie Connors visited the school on October 12 and 17 to teach an introduction to checking, savings and credit, with real-life scenarios focused on what students should expect as they prepare for more financial responsibility, college and careers.

Some of these students may have already had their first personal experience with credit as part of the car-buying process. And all of these students will be faced with many more scenarios involving credit and money management after graduation, when they enter college or the workforce.

In these lessons from NBT Bank, students learn that managing financial obligations well can not only help them earn a good credit score, but can actually save them money over time.

“High school students need to understand how to make informed and thoughtful decisions when it comes to their money and credit, especially as they prepare to take on the cost of college and step into financial independence,” said Connors. “We are trying to help students develop strong financial habits early so they better understand the impact of their financial decisions as they prepare for college and adulthood.”
