Portland, ME (November 29, 2018) – At a holiday event at The Westin Portland Harborview, NBT Bank presented two $15,000 donations—one to Experience Camps of Maine and one to the Dempsey Center for support of Clayton’s House.
“Both Experience Camps and the Dempsey Center provide such important services to the residents of our community,” said Kimberly Twitchell, NBT Bank’s Maine Regional President. “Some of us have seen first-hand what it’s like when a child loses a parent, and some of us have witnessed the tremendous challenges a family faces when traveling for medical care. We know how much of a difference these two organizations can make in the quality of someone’s life during those difficult times.”
Experience Camps Chief Possibilities Officer Jeff Kimball and Dempsey Center Executive Director Wendy Tardiff were at the event to accept the donations.
NBT Bank’s contribution to Experience Camps will be used to support camp attendance by grieving children from Maine. Founded at Camp Manitou in Oakland, Maine in 2009, Experience Camps provide boys and girls whose parent, sibling or primary caregiver has died, with a program that helps build confidence, encourages laughter and allows them to navigate their grief through friendship, teamwork, athletics, and the common bond of loss.
NBT’s contribution to the Dempsey Center will be used to support Clayton’s House in Portland, which provides a compassionate, caring environment for cancer patients and their family/caregiver and offering overnight stays. A tentative opening date has been set for July 2019.
NBT Bank first entered the Portland market in 2014. Investing in its local communities is one of NBT’s core values.
“As part of our approach to true community banking, initiatives like this are important to us to support the organizations that directly reach people within our market,” Twitchell said.
