So you want to move your checking account, but you’re not sure where to start?


You’ve come to the right place! NBT Bank’s Make the Switch online toolkit provides you with the information and resources you need to simplify the process and successfully redirect your direct deposits and automatic payments to your new account.

The steps are easy:


1 Open your new NBT Bank checking account by visiting any NBT Bank office. Don’t forget to ask about NBT Online Banker to access your account and pay bills via the internet.
   
2 Redirect your automatic payments and direct deposits to your new NBT Bank checking account with the help of an NBT Banker and this Make the Switch online toolkit. You can access the forms and letters you'll need at the Switch Kit Forms tab above or you can talk to an NBT Banker in one of our conveniently located offices for hands-on assistance.
   
3 Close your old checking account using the Account Closing Request letter (see Switch Kit Forms tab) when your automatic payments and direct deposits have been redirected to your new NBT Bank checking account.

Fill out our Application Information and Current Deposits and Payments forms.

Bring your completed forms to any NBT Bank office. Stop in when it’s convenient for you or call ahead to make an appointment. For location information, click here.

When you visit us, your NBT Banker will:
  • Open your new checking account and set up any additional services and/or accounts you need (debit card, online banking, savings account, etc.).

  • Assist you in the process of notifying depositors and/or payees that you want to redirect your direct deposits and automatic payments to your new checking account. These notifications may be made by mail or phone. If you prefer to handle your notifications on your own, the form and letters are posted on our website for your convenience.

Use the Current Deposits and Payments form to track that your direct deposits and automatic payments have been successfully redirected to your new NBT Bank checking account.

When your deposits and payments have been redirected and any checks written on your old checking account have cleared, use the Account Closing Request form to notify your old financial institution that you would like to close your account(s).

Opening a checking account at your local NBT Bank office will be quick and easy when you complete and bring in the Application Information form.

Current Deposits and Payments
Use this form to summarize your direct deposits and automatic payments. Complete and bring it in when you visit NBT Bank to open your checking account, and your NBT Banker will generate communications to assist you in redirecting these transactions to your new account. Or you can use the fillable letters below to create the communications on your own. After you've notified depositors and payees, use the form to track their responses.
