NBT Bancorp Promotes Murphy to Chief Credit Officer
NORWICH, N.Y. (July 22, 2013)– NBT Bancorp Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer Howard Atkinson announced that James E. Murphy has been promoted to chief credit officer.
In this role, Murphy will be responsible for management of credit risk exposures within the company’s loan portfolios including credit quality, trends, diversification and performance. He will be based at NBT Bancorp headquarters in Norwich, N.Y.
Murphy has over 30 years of experience in commercial lending. He joined NBT Bank in 2012 as regional credit officer supporting the company’s commercial banking teams with underwriting, credit approvals and portfolio management in its New York and New England markets.
Before joining NBT Bank he was a senior vice president and credit executive for JP Morgan Chase Bank overseeing that company’s Albany, Syracuse and New England markets. He previously worked at Bankers Trust where he was a vice president and relationship manager. A resident of East Greenbush, Murphy has a bachelor’s degree from Siena College and an MBA from Russell Sage College. He has served on the board and audit committee of the Empire State Development Corporation and the board of Catholic Charities in Albany. Murphy also is a former adjunct professor teaching in the MBA program at Russell Sage College. "NBT is pleased to have Jim in this critical position," Atkinson said.
